Climate change
campaigners the Global Warming Alliance held a Blue Ball at
the Wentworth Club in Virginia Water on Saturday, March 24th.
The glamorous
event was the social launch of the GWA which aims a series of
initiatives to raise public understanding of the climate change
problem and support for action. Global Warming Alliance chairman
Donald Burfitt-Dons gave a short speech to introduce the NGO
saying ‘we now know that the world’s oceans are
indeed warming and at a faster rate than IPCC scientists have
been predicting’ and showed a graph of the Alliance’s
research demonstrating how ‘hurricane intensity has broken
out of the range which has prevailed for the last half century’.
The blue theme,
to symbolise the planet from space and the colour of the skies
from earth was the colour of the evening with the ladies wearing
long blue gowns.
